The role of Islamic Mentoring in developing the research competencies of graduate students in the field of Information Sciences and Knowledge Studies

Purpose: Due to the important role of Information Sciences and Knowledge Studies agents in scrutinizing and evaluating the quality and quantity of science development at various institutional and individual levels, one of the competencies required for them is research competencies. The aim of present study was to investigate role of Islamic mentoring in development of research competency between Information Sciences and Knowledge Studies graduate Students methods: Correlation design was used. The sample was selected from graduate Students of Tehran universities. Then, 102 cases were selected using the ratio of "sample size to number of variables" calculation and Stratified random sampling method; To measure students' research competency, Sub-scales of performing & managing research and interpreting & transferring knowledge of student development questionnaire was used. Results: The results showed that the mean of Islamic mentoring and student’s research competency are 3.78 and 3.84 which were in a desirable condition. The results of correlation analysis indicated that the correlation coefficients of all factors of Islamic mentoring with research competency were significant and positive, except challenging, counseling and networking. Regression analysis indicates that the regression equation is significant and shows significant amount variance of research competency are explained by mentoring.
